Highway maintenance fun to follow

Info.nl has developed an online information centre that boosts understanding of and engagement with road maintenance in the Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere area. Rijkswaterstaat, a division of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, is responsible for the construction and maintenance management of the main infrastructure facilities in the Netherlands. We were committed to reinvent the concept of the traditional Visitor information center. Why? – to fulfill the need for a better understanding among the public of the what-how-and-why regarding road improvement works around Schiphol, Amsterdam and Almere.

Manage expectations and public reach

To reshape the rooted Visitor centre concept and develop an interactive hub instead a set of strategic goals was formulated:

  • any-time, any place: relocating the information sharing online with a special attention to mobile accessibility; extending the public reach.
  • storyteller with a purpose: managing expectations towards tangible public experience; introducing sense of scale and impact for future road construction works.
  • engaging magnet: raising the level of public engagement; inviting public interest in the construction progress.

Highway capacity of tomorrow, visible today

Mobility will increase, not only in the short term, but certainly in the long term by 2040. To cater for growth, Rijkswaterstaat is working on a robust, cohesive transport system with sufficient capacity. The interactive information centre developed by Info.nl acts not only as a visual bridge between the ‘’now’’ and ‘’then’’, but also brings traffic management, road authorities and public together.

Central information hub with unlimited data sharing

The central information hub has an additional potential for knowledge sharing. For instance, essential data – roads closed, construction works ongoing, etc. – can be included on external local websites via specially developed widgets. Unlimited possibilities for dynamic interactions and cost-saving data.
